In Somalia, the extremist group al-Shabaab has forcibly recruited thousands of children over the past decade, using them as fighters, spies, and suicide bombers. The Act explicitly prohibits the recruitment and use of children in armed conflict. Every day of inaction expands the pool of lost children and strengthens the hand of those who seek to destabilise the country.
