In chapter 1 verse 19, the overview of Revelation is given: “What you have seen, what is now, and what will take place later.” That is, Christ has been seen resurrected and glorified (past), He is the head of the church throughout the church age (present), and He will remain sovereign thereafter (future –beginning in Revelation chapter 4). The implication is that in these days when it’s difficult to get the truth, that is who He is – the faithful and true witness. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.
