Before the game, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman labeled Anthropic’s campaign as “dishonest.” He argued that OpenAI would never implement ads in the distracting, invasive way the commercial depicted. These ads appear as sponsored links at the bottom of the interface, clearly separated from the AI’s actual responses. Whether users will embrace a slightly “sponsored” experience or migrate to ad-free alternatives remains to be seen, but the competition is clearly heating up both in the code and in the court of public opinion.
