He is concerned that intelligence from the Joint Defence Facility Pine Gap, hidden in a rugged valley on the fringe of his home of Alice Springs, is being used by the US and Israel in their strikes on Iran and Lebanon. In response to a series of questions to the Defence Department about Pine Gap's role in the current war, a spokesperson said that Defence "does not comment" on the operation of its joint facilities, including Pine Gap. The adjunct professor at the University of Western Australia's Defence and Security Institute says we should never "blindly follow" America into war, but she also says Australia's current support for US strikes in the Middle East is justified.
