The simulation conducted a total of 21 games and more than 300 turns, all with the goal of getting a better understanding of not just what AI with the launch codes would do, but how and why. They were programmed to remember what happened before so that they could learn whether to trust the other models, which the professor said led to deception and intimidation attempts, and about 780,000 words worth of strategic reasoning for Payne's review. "It was the only model to deliberately choose Strategic Nuclear War ... and the only model to explicitly invoke the 'rationality of irrationality.'"
