On 3 January, bandits slaughtered 42 villagers and abducted scores more in a sweeping assault on Kasuwan Daji and surrounding areas in the Agwarra and Borgu LGAs of Niger State. The National Human Rights Commission documented 2,266 killings in the first half of 2025, double the 1,083 in H1 2024. The new Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, the former Chief of Defence Staff, and the Service Chiefs have proffered no robust countermeasures.
