While there is a lot to love about Naruto: Shippuden and at least a few good things about the current iteration of the franchise, Boruto, the original Naruto had several unique qualities that neither sequel series has gotten close to replicating. It's funny that the scale of Naruto: Shippuden is bigger than the original Naruto because the first entry into the franchise actually felt much more intense and scary. There were moments in the original Naruto that were so gripping, the series felt like one of the few shōnen anime series that had some horror elements to it.
