Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man helped launch the MCU into a global juggernaut, but long before Iron Man (2008) hit theaters, many of the hero’s most iconic moments had already unfolded in Iron Man: The Animated Series. Iron Man: The Animated Series offered a strikingly similar origin in the two-part finale of season 1, “The Origin of Iron Man.” In these episodes, a flashback recounts Tony’s imprisonment and his life-saving creation of a prototype suit with Ho Yinsen. In the MCU, the misuse of Stark’s inventions becomes a recurring theme – Ultron was born from Tony’s peacekeeping idea in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and villains like Vanko (Iron Man 2) and Killian (Iron Man 3) try to replicate or steal Stark tech.
